These pictures are taken at the summit of Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii. Haleakala is a dormant volcano on the East side of Maui. It's summit is over 10,000 feet above sea level, which makes it a great place to watch the sunrises...above the clouds!! Through these pictures, I hope the viewer feels a sense of mystery because of the fog and rocky landscape. These photos were difficult to capture because of the haze, but I think they turned out really well!
These photos are taken at a lookout on the way down from the summit of Haleakala. These photos really capture how surreal it is to be this high in the sky. "A Different Planet" shows craters in a valley. This photo really looks unlike anything else, the reddish clay makes the image look like it was taken on Mars!! "The Whole Island" is one of my favorite pictures I took! Since I was so high up, you can see the entire west side of the island and the valley in between the mountains! These images were difficult to photograph because finding the right vantage points and angles was near impossible. However, I think these pictures capture the island in a beautiful way.
These photos were taken in Iao Valley on the west side of the island. Iao Valley is an old battle site, so it is a very historical State Park. I decided Iao Valley would be a beautiful landscape because of its lush green color and various mountain peaks. Since this location is a popular tourist destination, it was complicated to take pictures without people in them. However, it was fun to play with balance in these pictures.
These photos were taken along the Pipiwai Trail in east Maui. This trail is two miles long and ends in a 400 ft majestic waterfall. The hike is partly through a bamboo forest, which is what I took my pictures of. Pipiwai Trail is also a very popular hike, so it was difficult to take picture of just the bamboo, and not of people. I feel like the bamboo is beckoning the viewer deeper into hike. I feel like I did a good job picturing natural formal balance!
These pictures were taken near the Nakalele Blowhole along the northwestern coast of Maui. I think this location's scenery was very majestic and portrayed my love for this beautiful island. This part of the island is very dangerous, between very powerful blowholes and sharp rocks, it is easy to get carried out to sea. It was difficult to snap a picture before an unpredictable wave hit! Despite the dangers, I was able to capture how stunning the coastline is!!
