This is my wonderful dad. He has such an important role in my life! Not only does he love and support my family, he also has the ability to make me laugh. My father is always kind and cares deeply for others. No matter what, he is always there for me. I cherish our relationship and I am so proud to call him my dad.
I took this photo while we were on vacation in Maui, Hawaii. We attended a Luau, and I decided this would be the perfect environment for my portraits. I made the subjects of my portraits stand in front of some palm leaves. The palm leaves don't distract from the person being photographed, so it worked out nicely.
There were however a few challenges I faced while taking these portraits. I wanted to implement the rule of thirds in my work, but each picture I took trying to use this rule didn't turn out. Another challenge I faced while taking these portraits was getting the balance and grouping right. It was difficult to find a setting that had a neutral background, yet still had formal balance. A couple of triumphs I experienced while taking these portraits was the lighting and selective focus of these photographs. I feel very confident that I got the lighting of the portraits right. Finally, I feel that the background of my portraits was not distracting, so that there is the selective focus of the person I was photographing.
